Four Steps to Creating an Urn with Flowers
Flowers offer lots of opportunities for exploring palettes containing bright, bold colours.
In this example, I'll show you how to create a great looking picture of an "Urn with Flowers".
1. First, choose a light background which will show off the flowers to maximum effect. I chose a light blue background but you could choose a different colour if you like.
I also chose a light pink for the urn since this also contrasted nicely with the bright colours of the flowers.
I then added the main flowers that I wanted to feature most strongly in my design.
I chose to colour them bright red but your could choose a different colour if you like.
2. Next, add the main areas of foliage.
Then, add one or two examples of the other types of flower that you want to include in your design. I chose a combination of orange and magenta flowers to fill out my design.
Don't worry about adding the detail just yet - that comes later. The main aim, at this stage is simply, to establish the overall composition of your picture.
3. Now it's time to add the detail to your canvas.
Remember, now that you've worked out the composition of your picture, this stage will be easy and, your design will come together very quickly.
As you can see, I also added some bright green highlights to the foliage, at the same time.
These contrast nicely with the darker leaves and add further interest to the picture.
4. And that's just about it!
All that's left to do is to add a frame to your picture if you decide it needs one.
I chose to add a purple frame which, not only contrasts nicely with the light blue background,
but also complements the bright colours in the rest of the scene.
Of course, there are many other ways that you could complete a design like this so why not try it for yourself and see what you come up with!.
